Light Home and Youth Light Home
Light Home is the inaugural housing project initiated by Light Be. Light Home primarily consists of apartments generously offered by private property owners located in different districts of Hong Kong. These owners proactively approach Light Be, expressing their willingness to offer their private properties to help those in need.
Light Home embraces the concept of co-housing and specifically caters to single-parent families, offering them a supportive living environment that helps these mothers and children to restore stability and to find the path forward.
Similarly, Youth Light Home is also a network of properties, focusing on young adults and working students, helping them to develop the capacity for self-reliance and self-autonomy.
Light Housing
By revitalizing an idle factory staff dormitory, Light Housing serves as an innovative social housing project that inspires Hong Kong society to rethink and better utilize underused real estate resources. Driven by its vision and social impact, the project earned prestigious recognition from the American Institute of Architects Hong Kong Chapter in 2019.
Nestled between mountains and the sea, Light Housing boasts open, scenic views and units equipped with private balconies, taking advantage of Sham Tseng’s rich coastal environment. Living here not only offers children a unique quality of living, but also gives parents the peace of mind to strive forward and proactively expand their family’s future housing options.
The project provides around 40 units for three- to four-person families, along with a select number of larger units for families of five to six.
Light Factory
Light Factory is another housing innovation by Light Be, repurposing private property for public benefit. Starting from the owner’s goodwill and with support from the government and various sectors, the entire industrial building is being transformed into transitional housing.
Light Factory is located near the Yau Tong MTR Station and the Yau Tong Bay waterfront. In recent years, the surrounding industrial area has been gradually transitioning toward residential development.
The project provides more than 200 units in total, suitable for households of at least two people and up to six people, with an average unit size of about 280 square feet. Each unit includes its own bathroom and a small open kitchen. Most floors are accessible via elevators.
The building will also provide residents’ facilities for beneficiary tenants and their children.
Originally a weaving and knitting factory, Light Factory retains key architectural elements of its industrial character even after conversion—such as its “red, white, blue” exterior design and higher ceiling heights.
